Studio History - JDA
Established in 1991 as the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, Judy’s Dance Academy has become a long standing entity in the Brandon / Valrico area and surrounding communities. Starting with one dance studio and 125 students, JDA now serves 300-400 dancers each year in a multi-room facility. In 1994, Director Judy Comiskey, branched out into the competition world. Bringing the talents of her dancers to numerous community events through-out the years has resulted in Mrs. Comiskey becoming a well-known public figure. She took pride in giving back to the community by participating in many on-going charitable organizations such as Feed the Bay, Relay for Life, Susan Komen 3-Day For a Cure and Brandon Gift of Hope to name but a few. Her mission was to be the studio that cares, and that has shown throught the decades in the foundation built in the studio. We honor and love Judy and the legacy she left, and JDA will continue building on the foundation of care cultivated in this community.

In Summer 2025, JDA entered a renewed season of leadership with Gloria Pourciaux as the new owner & director. This transition honors the studio's longstanding legacy while strengthening operational structure, professionalism, and cultural clarity JDA believes dance is not merely an extracurricular activity but a formative experience that cultivates discipline, resilience, creativity, teamwork, and confidence. JDA operates with values rooted in Biblical principles that stand on integrity, respect, and character in everything we do. These values guide leadership & instruction to bring out excellence in each of our dancers.
We are honored to continue the legacy of being the studio that cares while also providing top-tier choreography, professional dance opportunities, life skills and principles that students will carry for a lifetime. We are setting a new and refined standard for dance in this region.

Our choreographers are some of the most skilled creatives, each established with over a decade of experience in the dance industry some of which are current mainstream proffesional dancers. They continue in ongoing training pushing themselves to the next level and bringing that into our studio.
We offer a comprehensive curriculum of ballet, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, acrobatics, pointe and clogging. Our program allows dancers to reach for their highest potential no matter the age or level. JDA prides itself on being a family oriented studio where dancers who take 1 class are as valuable as those that take 10 classes. New students are always welcome through-out the year.
